When I first wrote this post a week or so ago, Straight Talk’s first Android release, the Samsung Galaxy Precedent, was set at the price of $149.  Now, the price of this phone has been slashed an additional $20, which means you can now get the Precedent for only $120.  For a prepaid Android phone with an unlimited plan, this is a nice phone.  See more at the official site.

New Straight Talk Android Phone

Speaking of Android phones, Straight Talk recently released its third Android handset, the LG Optimus Black, a nice phone that gives you access to all 250,000 Android Marketplace apps, in addition to a brilliantly colored touch screen, and a 5 megapixel camera.  That’s the LG Black to the left there.  What do you think?  Nice looking phone right?  Learn more.

Samsung Precedent Is Just That, The first Straight Talk Android

The Samsung Precedent really sticks out in my mind as a solid deal because it’s an Android phone with no contract that runs on a very good unlimited plan.  I think Straight Talk has done well by putting this phone in its lineup.  It’s the first Android phone for Straight Talk.  If you’re still not sold on this phone, you have one more Android to choose from, the LG Optimus Q, Straight Talk’s second Android phone.  More on the LG Optimus Q.

Optimus Q Costs a Little More But Packs a Punch

The Optimus Q phone is a little bit more expensive at $179.99, but is well worth it because it runs on Android 2.3, has a 3.2 inch touch screen and a sliding qwerty keypad, and a 3 megapixel camera.  Overall, this phone is really nice.  If you don’t like this phone, perhaps the Nokia E5 will excite you.  Read about this phone here.

Straight Talk Nokia E71 Huge Price Cut

On December 8, 2011, in straight talk, by Chris

straight talk nokia e71 phoneUpdate (12/15/2011): Before you read on, this phone has actually been discounted even deeper than it was when I first wrote this post.  Now the Nokia E71 is only $99 brand new.  This is as low as I’ve seen this phone priced from Straight Talk.  The Nokia 6790 is also available for $99, which is a nice price cut as well.  See both phones and all the other Straight Talk phones at StraightTalk.com.

One of the best Straight Talk phones out there, the Nokia E71 is currently available on the website for only $49, a fifty dollar discount off the former price of $99.  This is for a reconditioned Nokia E71 and is a lot cheaper than the brand new version of the phone which costs $149.  It’s one hundred dollars cheaper which will help you pay for several months of wireless service.  Check out this deal if you’re looking to save good money on a solid phone with a great prepaid plan.  Get your Nokia E71 at StraightTalk.com

New Phone

There is a new LG Android phone to be hitting the shelves of Straight Talk.  It is the LG Optimus Black and it’s a great mid level Android phone that a lot of people are talking about right now.  Some love it, some don’t love it so much.  At about $300 it’s a little bit out of the price range for some folks, but when you think about the fact that it’s a prepaid phone and thus has no contract and no commitment, and that you will be able to use with an unlimited plan, then it doesn’t seem to be so expensive.

Is the Nokia 6790 the smart phone that Straight Talk customers have been looking for all this time?  That’s a good question, but the answer is inevitably going to be “no.”  There is just no way to really compare the Nokia 6790 to the iPhone in its current incarnation.  The first difference is in the user experience of the phone.  The iPhone is a much simpler, single button phone with a touch screen, while the Nokia 6790 does not have a touch screen and is a slider-phone that slides open to reveal a full interior keypad.  Another crucial difference comes in the fact that the 6790 is a prepaid phone.

Clearly, the phones are quite different, but the real question is does the Nokia 6790 have enough style and substance to excite future Straight Talk customers?

The Details of the Phone

The Nokia 6790 has a 2-megapixel camera (which is pretty standard these days), a decent sized screen, a a 4gb microsd card, free voice-guide navigation, mobile web services, and bluetooth wireless technology in addition to other nice little things the phone does.  One of the big features that you just can’t escape in this phone is the slide-out keyboard.  If you are going to buy the Straight Talk Nokia 6790, it’s essential that you want a slide out keyboard, otherwise you might prefer the Nokia E71, a more Blackberry-esque phone that doesn’t slide open.

Unlimited Plan

This phone has some good things about it, the chief of which is that it is a prepaid smart phone that won’t break the bank.  It comes with an Unlimited plan that will give you limitless talk time, web browsing, and text messaging.

New Prepaid Straight Talk Cell Phones

On July 11, 2011, in straight talk, by Chris

If you’re looking for a prepaid cell phone, Straight Talk has three new ones you might be interested in checking out since they all work with the Unlimited $45 plan that’s been getting a lot of hype lately.  For that price, you get unlimited talk, text, and web browsing–so it’s a pretty good deal for people who use their phones a lot.

The new Straight Talk phones are the Samsung t528G, the Nokia E71, and the Nokia 6790.  The 6790 and E71 are smart phones, which means that they can do email and are good for web browsing.  All three are worth looking at.

Straight Talk Samsung t528G Released

On July 8, 2011, in straight talk, by Chris

The new Straight Talk Samsung t528G phone has been released and is now available for purchase online at StraightTalk.com at a price of $99.  With this phone you have the choice to either use the All You Need of Unlimited Straight Talk plan.  The All You Need plan comes with 1,000 minutes and 1,000 text messages to use over a period of 30 days at a cost of only $30 per month.

The Straight Talk Unlimited plan costs $45 and grants users unlimited talk, text, and even web browsing.  The Samsung t528G is a good Straight Talk option because it sits right in the middle of all the phones available.  I mean that it is right in the middle in terms of price and functions.  It is a nice phone, but at $99 is less expensive than either the Nokia E71 and Nokia 6790, the two smartphones recently released by Straight Talk.  You can save $100 and get a very nice phone with a 3 inch screen and a lot of functions you will probably like to use with your prepaid plan.

    Straight Talk Plans

Straight Talk has two plans out right now.  One costs $30 and the other $45.  Let’s start with the $45 plan, since it’s the most popular one and the one that put ST on the map.  This plan gives you unlimited talk, text, and web browsing, which is pretty cool.  The other plan is good for 1,000 minutes of talk time and the same amount of text messages.  Both plans are very good and competitive against other similar plans out there.

    Free Phones

The free phones are the LG 220C and the Motorola W385.  Both are flip phones with mobile web browsing capabilities and bluetooth connectivity.  You can also download ringtones and graphics onto these phones.  The reason I would probably opt for the Motorola W385 is because it has a camera.

    How to Claim this Deal

Go to the official website StraightTalk.com and select one of the phones.  You will move on to the next screen and select one of the two Straight Talk plans.  From there, you pay for one month of service and you get your free phone to use with your talk time, web browsing, and text messaging.

free straight talk phones prepaidFree Phone Update

Straight Talk just seems to keep changing things up or I guess you could call it evolving, or at least that’s what they might say.  First they change the free phone deal–now it looks like the phone is the LG 420G (they always seem to be LG phones that are free).  Then they release three new smart phones that look really nice, making the free deal not look so good anymore.

    Straight Talk Coverage Map

On March 15, 2011, in straight talk, by Chris

If you’re considering buying a Straight Talk phone, then you’re probably going to want to know just where in the United States Straight Talk phones get good coverage and where they get poor coverage.  You can derive this information quite easily from the Straight Talk coverage map, which should give you relatively accurate details as to where you can use these phones.  Straight Talk has two plans, the Unlimited plan that costs $45 per month and the 1,000 minutes/text plan that runs $30 per month.  These are very competitively priced plans and you can get some affordable cell phones to go with these affordable plans.  See the Straight Talk coverage map below and if you get good coverage where you’re at, then you can put Straight Talk on your list of potential prepaid phone service companies.  See more detailed coverage maps and plan and phone details at StraightTalk.com

straight talk coverage mapStraight Talk also has some free prepaid phones that you can get on their official website.  You get the phone free with the purchase of either of the Straight Talk prepaid phone plans (you only have to pay for a month).  Pretty good deal.

straight talk prepaid phonesStraight Talk has as pretty good selection of prepaid phones to choose from, so it’s hard to answer the question of whether or not Straight Talk phones are good for you. But we can dig into the offered prepaid plans and see if one of them will suit your needs. First let’s start with the unlimited plan. This plan–for the comparatively low rate of $45–will give you unlimited minutes, web browsing, text messaging, emailing, and more. You even get free 411 calls (on both plans).

    All You Need Plan

The second plan is a steal. It costs $30 for a 30-day cycle and gives you 1,000 minutes and 1,000 text messages in addition for free 411 calls, voice-guided GPS (both plans have this) and 30 mb of data transfer for web browsing. There are quite a few Samsung Straight Talk phones and LG models too.

See all the phones and current offers online at StraightTalk.com (it’s the best place to buy these phones since you can find the best and most up to date deals on the website).

    Samsung Galaxy Precedent

So, to answer the question posed in the title of this article, there are many different phones and two plans to fit most people’s phone needs.  If you’re thinking about a prepaid phone, the Straight Talk plans and phones are probably a very good place to start.  If you want a super basic phone, you can actually get a free low end phone from the website because there are usually a couple free phones available at any moment.

If you want the opposite end of the spectrum, you can go for one of the Android phones, which are not that expensive for a good higher end no contract cell phone.  Straight Talk has two plans.  One is the Unlimited $45 per month which you will want to use with the Android phones, while the second one only costs $30 for 1,000 minutes of talk time and 1,000 texts.

A few of the top cell phones available from Straight Talk are:

    Nokia E71 Smart Phone

Nokia E5 Smart Phone (Brand New)

Nokia 6790 Smart Phone (slider, messaging phone)

Samsung Galaxy Precedent Android Phone (with Unlimited plan)

Are the Nokia phones we saw recently in the Straight Talk lineup still available for purchase?  One commenter recently asked this question and I’ve been looking into it.  The Nokia E71 and Nokia 6790 (formerly the AT&T Surge) were released onto Straight Talk’s Unlimited plan several months ago but now it appears that they are no longer available for sale on the official website, which could mean that the phones are being discontinued from Straight Talk.  It’s kind of surprising that the appearance of these two smart phones, which caused a stir since they are smart phones on a prepaid plan, would be taken off the phone list so soon.  Quite a few people were interested in having a “higher end” phone to use with a prepaid plan.  People expect a little bit more out of their phones these days so we have seen a shift to better phones on cheaper plans (prepaid).  Hopefully the Nokia E71 and 6790 reappear on the site or get replaced with even better phones to choose from.  This is similar to what happened with the Samsung Finesse r810 smart phone.

Straight Talk still has some good phones and some good deals.  In fact, there are two free phones available right now with the purchase of the first month of service.  See them all at StraightTalk.com
