The following are some circumstances in which giving a prepaid cell phone as a gift to someone may be a bad idea. Some people just need to have a contract plan, while others seem to need the low restrictions of a prepaid plan. Read on and learn when you should not give a loved one a prepaid phone. If the person really likes his or her smartphone, you might want to avoid the switch to prepaid. Prepaid handsets tend to be a little more, how do I say this, “basic.” This is not a bad thing, since the real purpose of a prepaid plan is to get a good deal, right? It’s about saving money, not spending it on a ridiculously priced, highly functional smartphone.

You don’t know the person very well. The Samsung Exclaim M550, a cell phone in Sprint’s handset line, is similar to the Pantech Matrix and the Helio Ocean 2 in terms of its designs. Samsung t401g Free Straight Talk Cell Phone (Prepaid)

Update: Straight Talk has updated the phones it is offering for free right now. It is no longer offering the t401g (the phone that this post was initially written about), but not to worry! There are three new phones being offered for free with purchase of one month of service. They are the LG 220c, LG 420G, and Motorola w418g flip phone. See all of these new offers at StraightTalk.com and decide whether or not you want one of these phones. They are lower end phones, but they make sense for a lot of people, specifically those who are not looking for an android phone or a smart phone. These phones are rather basic, but that is not a bad thing, especially if you are planning to use the $30 Straight Talk plan rather than the unlimited one.
